Mahesh Bhatt is Ready to Shock Again

The irrepressible Mahesh Bhatt is ready with his latest shocker.

This time it isn’t a film. No way. Bhatt says he will never return to direction.

“It’s something far more vital. It’s my book A Taste Of Life. It will outlive all my movies. It’s my diary of my last days with the breath of my life U.G Krishnamurthy. This is by far the best work I’ve ever done in my life. It’s the most naked expression of my heart. It’s going to be a shocker.”

The book hits stores at the end of May. “It tea! rs down the sacred ideas of the human race. It stares unflinching into the face of death. And it celebrates life.”

Speaking on the end of his career as a director Bhatt says, “The page has turned. Chances of me directing another film are almost nil. I now want to watch the young directors in our production house make films.

When you teach the young you touch the future. Some people have said I ghost-directed our latest production Jashn. The film is the brainchild of the co-directors Raksha and Husain. It is unfair to strip them of the credit.”

Excited about the release of his book Bhatt concludes, “It’s not as thought I’ve given up on creativity. I’m now more vigorously engaged with the stream of life than ever before. Like the flower that blooms, gives its fragrance and then fades away, I’m also moving on. As a creative artiste I’m right now most excited about my book.”

How do you feel?
On top of the world. I want to thank God and my parents. I am where I am only due to Remo Sir, He was the best thing that could have happened to me.

What were the thoughts going on in your mind in the final moments before your name was announced?
I just told God that I thank you for what you have given me.

Which was your toughest dance step?
All were equally tough but the fire step could have turned into a disaster I might have lost my eyesight. You know how things go wrong despite all precautions.

According to you which was your best dance?
My best is yet to come. What you saw in DID were only glimpses of what I can do. Having said I like my Tu Hi Rai number and Chow dance.
Which is your particular forte, then?
I really don’t know what my forte is, sometimes mentors would say you rock in Salsa and at other time they exclaimed that you excel in Latin. All I can say is that I want to be choreographer’s dream. But I want to say that that I have not yet scratched the surface. As far learning is concerned I will keep up picking new things till I die.

Were you always a dancer?
My mom says I would shake to numbers even in the! pram. I gave my first performance when I was 2 at a family oc! casion d ancing to Ek Do Teen.

You come from Bangalore, a region not very popular with Hindi channel, yet you won?
If you remember I never begged for votes. I just asked for blessings. I only believe in hard work. I did not cry on stage giving somebody a chance to say that I was garnering sympathy votes. I want to compete and win fair and square.

50 lac prize booty is a big amount?
I honesty have not thought about that. Right from day one I only concentrated on my dance Like Arjun my aim was only at being the best dancer. I have really worked hard. I have given my blood and sweat for this purpose. I even landed in hospital but was back on stage as soon as I discharged. My only aim was to get better with every passing round.

What next?
I am open to all kinds of offers.

Most reality winners disappear after a few months?
See DID have given me a platform and now it’s up to me to prove myself.

Your decision to blog about your health setback has been received with stupendous warmth across the world. Comment.
I am totally overwhelmed. What began as a spontaneous decision to express my condition openly has evolved into this beautiful forum. But I'm just the train conductor. I'd like to keep inviting people onto the Yellow Diaries.

What prompted you to share your condition on the blog?
I shared my diagnosis with all a small circle of friends as soon as I knew. Then it was a matter of getting used to the new conditions in my life: the new treatments, the lifest! yle, the insurance papers etc.

Then before I knew it, we have the Toronto International Film Festival and an interesting time. The idea of the film festival culture mixed with the reality of my treatments. I had to be honest. I don't like to hide anything in my life anyhow.

How hard is it to make your body listen to your determined spirit?
It was easier in the beginning because I wasn't very affected by the treatment. In fact I attended a charity event in LA as well as a festival here in Toronto when I was doing chemo. It's a cumulative effect on your body and system. I'm also learning every day. I want to share that journey.

You will continue your passion for traveling?
Traveling has been a big part of my life. However I feel I'm in a different phase now. I'm happy to be in one place.

Which are your favourite cities?
I love Dharamsala. There's a lot of cities but now my journey is a lot more internal.

W! as it difficult to film Cooking With Stella in your health con! dition?< br />I don't know if I had Multiple Myeloma when I was filming Stella. On Wednesday we walked the Red Carpet for the premiere. I was looking forward to it.

How creatively satisfying have your recent films like I Can't Think Straight, and Kill, Kill Faster been?
Every creative endeavour is satisfying to me. I'm also pleased to hear that my old Garden ads were playing. I have a fond and old association with the brand. Isn't it odd how things come around?

Do you wish to marry and be a mother, like most women do?
Of course.

You once confessed you 'fled' from Bollywood because of the gossip. Are you more emotionally equipped now to deal with such hurdl! es?
Yes. We evolve and grow. The only consistency is change.

Would you be prompted to write a book on your experiences as the Warrior who fought an intimidating enemy and conquered the monster?
I would like to pursue writing, yes. It's something I have always loved and never had the complete courage to give myself over to. Perhaps now, with all the love and encouragement.

And I want to send out a message of love and thanks to everyone in India. Not only for me, I would hope that everyone continues to show love and compassion for anyone going through challenging times in their life.
